Katie would be 14 today (April 25th)!!

Katie’s first Summer at “Camp Redtail Rise” … runnin’ in the woods, lookin’ for birds! … 5 years old and looking amazing! ..

For some reason the dogs loved laying on the bbq cover. And Katie, well, she snuggled into the bbq cover when it was behind the bbq!!😂 …

Almost 11 years old! Keepin’ close watch on the ruffed grouse up in the tree! …

Katie slept in this position frequently, so it must have been comfortable! 😆 …

The horses just got too close for her comfort, so up with Uncle Brian she went! …

“Going for a run” became riding in the quad with us, at least for a bulk of the run. This past Winter, she didn’t like the cold anymore, but she still loved being outside on the warm days, especially when we were altogether outside!

This is my all-time favourite photo of all that I took of Katie! …

Katie never stopped hunting out here!! Every time we went for a run, she and Aengus checked out every spot they’d ever found a bird! They worked together finding grouse, backing each other up!

We miss Katie every day! She was the most incredible dog! She loved everyone and everyone loved her! She was very special!! It was such a pleasure to have her in our lives for so long!!

“It was COLD for my ‘Nite-Nite Pee’, so I’m all tucked in and warming up!”

“It’s a big cone for my widdle cut! But Aunt Kari said she’s tired of telling me not to lick! Aunt Kari said the barbed wire won, and that thankfully it wasn’t deep and didn’t need stitches — phew, I don’t have to go to that vet place! And then Aunt Kari said Aengus’ big cone looks pretty funny on me!!”

Aengus’ cone is massive on her, but … she finally chillaxed because she couldn’t get at her cut! And then she’d only look at me out of the corner of her eye! 🤣 …

She was still chillaxed in the morning, even without her cone. Laying in one of her favorite places – in front of the dishwasher, but really it’s in front of the heat vent! But, she still won’t look at the camera! 😂 …

A few days later …

“So, I started licking my cut after Aunt Kari said it was healing well, and I wouldn’t listen to her when she told me to stop licking … now I have to wear her Bennington shirt!”

Look who was snoozin’ away at 9:00 in the morning! …

Katie was pretty spoiled up here at Redtail Rise! She got to sleep on some of the furniture! 😮 On this particular morning, she was taking TWO seats on the red sofa up in the loft! 😆 And, she does look pretty comfortable!!

Katie didn’t like running in the cold anymore … I can’t blame her, I don’t really want to be out there in the cold myself! And, she didn’t like running with the snowmobile all that much anymore either! On warmer days, many times she would ride on the sled with us until we got a bit away from the house, and then she’d run fine!

So, we decided to try something different with her when we had a chinook … it was 0° C! … Time for a ride in the calf sled!! 😆

After a wee bit, we left her on her own in the calf sled …

She had her own carpet, and didn’t seem to mind it back there at all! Well, she got a bit restless when it got bumpy runnin’ over frozen horse turds! 😂

One Morning With Katie (October 2021)

“I’m in my fav-or-ite chair… I mean bed… no, chair!” …

“But now Aunt Kari is in the kitchen, and she might have some food for me!” …

“Aunt Kari wouldn’t give me anything, so I’ve headed to my other favorite spot! But, I won’t look at the camera!” …

One hour later…

“Uncle Brian is COOK-ING!!!! HE’LL give me something!!!” …

“I always get the heat vent in the morning!!”

“Aunt Kari says it’s not very cold this morning, but I still LOVE the heat vent in the morning!!!”

Doggie Christmas Presents!!!

She has a long wait!! 😂

Katie did eventually give up on guarding these while they were in the closet. Then they appeared the morning of December 19th, and she sniffed them out and guarded the table where they were piled until she got hers!! 🤣

What Do Doggies Do On A Cold Day?? (December 2021)

“It’s -27C with the wind and that’s just too cold to stay outside for long! I’m sooooo forlorn!!!!” …

“Heck, I can watch from here just fine! -27C doesn’t bother me one bit!! …

“I’m just happy to be inside with heat and comfort and Mom and Dad!!” …

“What’s that???? -27C????? Not for me, it ain’t!!!” …

“Aengus flushed a bird in here, I know it! I know it’s here! It’s right up… there!” …

“In this tree, I’m certain!” …

“Well… maybe it’s over there!” …

“Nope, up here! I’m sure!” …

“Nah Katie, it flew further than that!!”

“Aunt Kari & Uncle Brian got off the edge of the snow mobile trail and into the deep snow they went! They said it was hip deep! I know it was deep, cuz I had a heckuva time when I went off the trail too! Well, after what Aunt Kari said was 30 minutes (whatever that means!), they went on their way. But! Aengus & I got a wee bit distracted!!!! Aunt Kari & Uncle Brian came and found us!! And laughed and laughed and laughed at me! And took lots of photos – I don’t even like my picture taken!”

“And what did we get into? Well, Aengus said there was a gopher down here!”

“So I just had to go in to find it!”

“And when we got home, I had to have a BATH!! I must admit, it did feel good to get rid of all that mud! And it was a warm bath inside and not a cold hosin’ outside!!”

And after that adventure, Katie had a beer named after her! 😆 …

“Aengus taught me! It’s his fault!” …

“All you have to do is … go outside on a cold morning (Aunt Kari said it was -14°C/7°F), then bash the sh*t outta the cone when you come in the door, and … voila!” …

“Aunt Kari put me back in her t-shirt and warned me, to the very inch of my life, that I muss’int wreck my stitches!” …

“But see … Aengus did a much worse bashin’ than me!” …

“And now it’s nap-time!” …

“I think I just out-smarted Aunt Kari, so I could be in her shirt and not in the cone!” 😂
