15!!! And she still looks like a young dog!!!

2022-04-20

Maggy has been an amazing dog, a fabulous pet and companion!! And she’s absolutely devoted to Brian!! She’s slowed down a bit, but seems to be very healthy!! Pretty much deaf as a door-nail, but Brian taught her hand signals, and her vision is still excellent! We enjoy and love every moment with her!!

Prairie Falcon

Last month we saw this bird flying around our pasture, and into our neighbour’s pasture. At first Brian thought is was a type of hawk; then he realized it was a falcon. I did a little lookin’ around on the internet… it’s an Immature Prairie Falcon. Neither of us had seen one here before!

I was happy I had the big camera with the zoom lens with us!! And I was pleasantly surprised I was able to get as many good photos as I did… he was a FAST flyer!!

2022-03-20

Even though we were a fair distance away (about 100 yds or so in this photo), he seemed to be keeping an eye on us!

Taking off! …

He touched down a bit further away (about 200 yds), and was content to sit there for a few minutes. But he still seemed to be watching us! 😆

And, now he’s going to keep an eye out from every bottle of our newest port! 🤣 …

A Day With Charlie

April 2022

We had a day babysitting Charlie this week!! What a privilege!! We had so much fun!!!!

She found the Easter Baskets! She took the “bunny baskets” to G’pa Brian, then the “chick baskets”! …

2022-04-12

And she found the Easter Bunnies! …

2022-04-12

Then she found “The Charlie Stand”! …

2022-04-12

Brian modified this Stand from something similar Bailey has… using bits and pieces of wood from other projects, including Mark’s garage shelving from his Calgary home. (Brian added some paint and varathane a couple days after this… I’ll add some of those photos in another post… stay tuned!)

She gets to stand at counter height!!

“I Have To Wear What??”

(November 2019)

“It’s a big cone for my widdle cut! But Aunt Kari said she’s tired of telling me not to lick! Aunt Kari said the barbed wire won, and that thankfully it wasn’t deep and didn’t need stitches — phew, I don’t have to go to that vet place! And then Aunt Kari said Aengus’ big cone looks pretty funny on me!!”

2019-11-25

Aengus’ cone is massive on her, but … she finally chillaxed because she couldn’t get at her cut! And then she’d only look at me out of the corner of her eye! 🤣 …

2019-11-25

She was still chillaxed in the morning, even without her cone. Laying in one of her favorite places – in front of the dishwasher, but really it’s in front of the heat vent! But, she still won’t look at the camera! 😂 …

2019-11-26

A few days later …

“So, I started licking my cut after Aunt Kari said it was healing well, and I wouldn’t listen to her when she told me to stop licking … now I have to wear her Bennington shirt!”

Snoozin’ Away

(March 2021)

Look who was snoozin’ away at 9:00 in the morning! …

What a sweetheart!! ❤️❤️

Katie was pretty spoiled up here at Redtail Rise! She got to sleep on some of the furniture! 😮 On this particular morning, she was taking TWO seats on the red sofa up in the loft! 😆 And, she does look pretty comfortable!!

Katie Goes For A Run … Sort Of!

(January 2022)

Katie didn’t like running in the cold anymore … I can’t blame her, I don’t really want to be out there in the cold myself! And, she didn’t like running with the snowmobile all that much anymore either! On warmer days, many times she would ride on the sled with us until we got a bit away from the house, and then she’d run fine!

So, we decided to try something different with her when we had a chinook … it was 0° C! … Time for a ride in the calf sled!! 😆

2022-01-02

After a wee bit, we left her on her own in the calf sled …

2022-01-02

She had her own carpet, and didn’t seem to mind it back there at all! Well, she got a bit restless when it got bumpy runnin’ over frozen horse turds! 😂

The Pussy Willows Are Out!!

I couldn’t believe it when I looked out the bay window yesterday and noticed what was on one of our Golden Willows… had to check to make sure I was right when we ran the dogs today…

Yes, a few of our willows have their male catkins out (the pussy willow!) In the middle of February!

Here is one of our Golden Willows in the front yard…

2022-02-12

A little west of this Golden Willow are a couple ponds with Shining Willows, and a couple of them are just starting to get their pussy willows! It was in the shade over there, so I didn’t take any photos, but I did grab a few!

So what did I do with the pussy willows I cut? … I put them together with some I had from last year! …

New Camera!!

We decided to get a new camera … one that has far superior zooming, one of the best out there for the style of camera we like (and a camera/zoom lens where we didn’t need a “lottery win” to buy it! 😆). It’s a Nikon CoolPix 1000.

We got it about the end of October, and I have finally taken off the first batch of photos. It’s taking me a bit to learn to use it, and to learn how to keep it stable, especially at full zoom. So far I am very pleased with the camera and how the photos are turning out. Here are some highlights from the first batch …

First photo! … Mr. Woody Woodpecker (a Hairy Woodpecker) hangin’ out beside the bay window …

2021-10-30

Catching this eagle in flight was a challenge, especially with the zoom way out… “where did he go? Oh, there he is! Quick take the picture! Gone! Back! Got him!” …

This little Red Fox… he’s about 300 yds away, and I took the photo through the front window. I certainly didn’t get it as stable as I’d like …

Check back soon for some more of the photos from this first batch, from when we moved cows on November 3rd!
